Our Policy on Access and Inclusion of Disabled and Older People. Our intention is to ensure that all our guests, including those with disabilities and older people, experience a warm welcome at the Tower and we will do our best to make a visit to the Tower work well for everyone, within the limitations of the site and of a historic, listed building. We live on site and will assist whenever possible. Getting to TowerTower is in a quiet rural location and there are no public transport operators serving Tower directly. Taxis are available from the railway stations at Flint (8 miles) or Chester (13 miles). We may be able to collect guests (by prior arrangement) from Flint station. Full directions and maps are at www.towerwales.co.uk/location.htm and the Ordnance Survey grid reference is O.S. Ref. SJ 240 620 (one mile south of Mold). There is fairly good mobile phone reception at Tower. Approach and outside propertyTower is approached via a well-surfaced drive which includes a cattle grid. Parking is close to the Tower on well-compacted gravel. There is an alternative paved approach and entrance for wheelchair-users and directions will be given on arrival. Access for wheelchair users and others with limited mobilityThe Tower dates back to the 15th century and it is a Grade 1 listed building, which severely limits the owners’ ability to improve access for wheelchair users. There are two steps at the entrance and although level, many of the ground floor corridors and doorways are narrow and prevent wheelchair access or turning. For day-visitors on the Tower’s open days to the general-public (see ‘Visiting’ page on the website for details), ground floor access is available to the hall, dining room and drawing room via the conservatory. A video is available showing the inaccessible rooms. There is no wheelchair accessible lavatory at the Tower. The ‘Lady Mainwaring’ bedroom is reached by two flights of stairs and a half landing. The “Sir George Wynne”, and the “Wettenhall” bedrooms are accessed by a further short flight of stairs. Two rooms have en-suite bathrooms but the private bathroom for the “Wettenhall” is accessed via stairs. Visually impaired visitorsTower is generally well-lit and additional lighting is shortly to be installed in some less well-lit areas. Colour contrast is generally good and improvements will be made in some bedrooms/bathrooms. Information is available in large print on request. Guide dogs and other assistance dogs are welcome. Visitors with special dietary needsWe are happy to meet the needs of guests with special dietary requirements for breakfast. Prior notice is appreciated. Additional bedroom informationThe ‘Lady Mainwaring’ bedroom can be configured as a double or twin-bedded room. The “Sir George Wynne”, and the “Wettenhall” rooms are double bedded. Non-feather pillows and duvets can be provided although carpets are wool. ReviewWe will review access issues regularly and improve whenever possible.
